Bimbo Onakomaiya is an Economist by training, and she possesses an analytical mind, which is required in the management of a financially oriented company in a highly competitive environment.

A Fellow of the Chartered Insurance Institute of London with a career in insurance spanning over 35 years. Bimbo’s career started as an Associate, Hill Samuel Life Investment Services, Wales, United Kingdom before relocating to Nigeria, joining NICON Insurance in 1987 and becoming the company’s first female fellow of the Chartered Insurance Institute London (FCII). Trailblazing for the ten-year service in Nicon Insurance, she honed her skills in special risks, marine, oil, energy and reinsurance classes of insurance.

She moved to Anderson to open the consulting world to the insurance industry and vis-versa, thus enhancing partnerships that have now spanned decades.

From there she worked with Unic Insurance Plc. She later became AGM (Oil & Energy), where she was until December 2002 before becoming the pioneer Managing Director/CEO of Peakthrust Insurance Brokers Ltd from 2003 till date.

Her experience as a special risks underwriter in oil and energy as well as marine insurances has enabled her to interact at very high government and multinational levels with the institutional power brokers and decision makers that have impacted Nigeria.

Her job as a direct marketer has helped her hold discussions with top executives when bid specifications have had to be submitted and defended.

A beneficiary of the Total Quality Management training, Bimbo believes in putting in one’s best and doing things right the first time.

Faced with the challenges of working alongside any team of top professionals in a growing economy with a very great sense of social responsibility, she pledges to apply responsible and appropriate expertise with the highest level of commitment and dedication to achieve the overall goal of re-enforcing the company, the management of any organisation in which she is positioned, and its top echelon as a socially responsive, organisation of repute for the overall benefit of all relevant stakeholders.

Bimbo is a Governing Council Member, Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria and the President of Professional Insurance Ladies Association (PILA), the first female professional body in Nigeria established in 1973,  which is an affiliate of the Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria (CIIN), encompassing all the chartered female insurance professionals in Nigeria.

PILA serves as an advocacy group to promote gender mainstreaming and equal opportunities in the insurance sub-sector of the financial services industry. The association is keenly concerned with promoting forthrightness in women in the insurance industry.
