Magdi M. Amin is the Founder and Managing Partner of African Renaissance Partners, an investment and advisory firm focused on the Horn of Africa. African Renaissance Partners backs tech-focused entrepreneurs, seeking to use technology to solve major development challenges, such as access to finance, renewable energy, logistics, education, health, and agricultural productivity.
Magdi is also an Adjunct Professor at the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies CMU Africa, he imparts real world insights into the ethical deployment of technology including AI, shaping the next wave of responsible digital development. His role on the Investment Committee of Co-Develop further extends his commitment to technology as a cornerstone for equitable progress.
Previously, Magdi was Head of Corporate Strategy at the IFC as well as numerous senior roles at the World Bank in East Asia, Africa, and MENA.
He was also Managing Director at Omidyar Network within the responsible technology practice before joining the transitional government of Sudan in January 2000 as a Senior Advisor to the Minister of Finance, where he supported economic reforms to stabilise the economy, regain access to multilateral financial institutions, restructure Sudan’s external debt, and create broad-based growth. He led the design of the Sudan Family Support Programme, a large cash transfer programme that provided digital cash transfers to approximately five million Sudanese.
Magdi received an A.B. from Princeton and an M.A. from Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies.
In his spare time, Magdi writes on ancient Nubia and plays the saxophone.
Much of Amin’s career has focused on ethical leadership and responsibly using the power of markets and technology to empower people. He honed his ability to identify winners and manage risks through decades of experience in emerging markets as an investor, economist, strategist and turnaround management. He leads with a strong sense of fairness and innovation.
Amin sits on several for-profit and non-profit boards.
