Haruna Musa (PhD) was appointed Managing Director/CEO of Jaiz Bank Plc on November 21, 2023. A seasoned banker with more than three decades of experience across Nigeria and the wider African continent, Haruna brings a quiet confidence and hands-on leadership style to the role.

A lifelong learner, Haruna’s academic journey is detailed in diverse disciplines. He studied at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria; Bayero University, Kano; and Cranfield University in the United Kingdom. He earned his PhD in Islamic Banking and Finance from Universiti Utara in Malaysia, reflecting a deep commitment to ethical finance and financial inclusion.

From Cranfield, Haruna earned an MSc in Finance and Management. He also holds a Master of Business Administration from Bayero University, Kano, along with a Postgraduate Diploma in Management from the same institution. Earlier, he completed a Bachelor of Agriculture at Ahmadu Bello University, highlighting a broad foundation in both science and business.

Haruna has completed numerous executive-level courses around the world, underscoring his dedication to staying at the forefront of global banking practices. He is also an honorary member of the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN), a testament to his standing in the profession.

Before stepping into the top role at Jaiz Bank, Haruna spent eight years as Executive Director at GT Bank. Across his 27-year career, he spent 22 years with Guaranty Trust Bank Holding Company (GTCO), where he developed a deep understanding of large-scale operations, risk management, and customer-centric banking.

In every role, Haruna brings a blend of strategic vision, practical execution, and a genuine commitment to ethical, inclusive banking. He is focused on steering Jaiz Bank with integrity, innovation, and a people-first approach.

Right from the first month he resumed office as MD, Musa outlined a bold direction for Jaiz Bank. With a reputation for calm, decisive leadership and strong track record in corporate banking and risk control, he launched a listening tour across the bank’s main hubs in Abuja, Kano, and Lagos. He connected with colleagues at every level, challenged familiar assumptions, and encouraged open, constructive feedback on what the bank does well and where it can improve.

In just a few years, Jaiz Bank has grown from a well-regarded name to a prominent national player. Under Haruna Musa’s leadership, the bank has demonstrated steady discipline, a reimagined culture, tech-enabled progress, and a strong pledge to principled finance.
