Frehiwot Tamiru is a vibrant and visionary Ethiopian leader, currently serving as the Chief Executive Officer of Ethio Telecom since 2018. Known for her bright personality, technical expertise, and business acumen, Frehiwot has become one of Ethiopia’s most admired public sector leaders, driving remarkable growth and modernisation at one of Africa’s largest telecom operators.

Born and raised in Addis Ababa, around the Beliere area, Frehiwot began her career at Ethio Telecom immediately after graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Information Systems. Over seven years, she rose through the ranks from programmer to Deputy Manager before venturing into entrepreneurship. She founded Doxa IT Technology Plc, leading it successfully for another seven years.

Her journey came full circle when, following a significant political shift in Ethiopia, she was personally called by the Prime Minister to lead Ethio Telecom. Before becoming CEO, she also served as a Board Member of Ethio Telecom.

Frehiwot holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the Open University, UK, complementing her technical background. Her leadership excellence has been recognised internationally receiving several distinguished awards like being named among the 2023 Laureates of Choiseul 100 Africa Economic Leaders of Tomorrow and Honored with the 2022 CEO Awards, celebrated in Ghana and Mauritius.

She also contributed to public service through her work at the Regional Ministry of Construction, Transport, and Communication in Afar Region.
Under her leadership, Ethio Telecom has achieved significant subscriber and revenue growth, despite increasing competition and industry liberalisation. Her approachable style, clarity in communication, and smart decision-making have earned her widespread love and respect from the Ethiopian public.

She is fully dedicated to her mission and she continues to inspire a new generation of Ethiopian leaders through her resilience, authenticity, and transformational leadership.
