Mteto Nyati is passionate about people and technology. He believes in the capacity and tenacity of human beings to create the future they want. As an engineer he is wired to seek challenges. Mteto Nyati is an accomplished business leader and investor with over 25 years of experience in the telecommunications, technology, and media sectors. He is the Chairman of BSG, a leading homegrown business and technology consulting company that helps clients deliver their digital transformation goals. He is also the founder of Wazo Investments, a private equity firm that invests in medium-sized companies with high growth potential and scalability.

As a Yale World Fellow and a published author of the bestseller “Betting on a Darkie”, Mteto shares his insights and lessons on leadership, diversity, and innovation. His views on age, race, gender and related topics are quite interesting. For instance, he says these labels through which we see people “offer quick judgments, but they rob us of the richness that every individual carry.”

Mteto admits he has been fortunate to work alongside people who consistently prove labels wrong and they include “The young professional whose fresh perspective cuts through old assumptions. The woman who leads technical teams with both strength and empathy. The colleague who chose South Africa as home and now pours their talent into building it stronger. The experienced leader who remains open to learning from those younger than them.” According to him, what they share is not the category others might place them in, but their character, their drive, and their commitment to a purpose larger than themselves.

Mteto Nyati has received multiple awards and honours, including an honorary doctorate from the University of Johannesburg and the IT Personality of the Year in 2014 and 2016. He is passionate about people and technology, and believes in creating a positive impact in society through his work and investments.
