Temwani Simwaka
CEO, NBS Bank

Temwani Simwaka is the CEO of NBS Bank. She is an experienced and seasoned Chief Financial Officer with a demonstrated history of working in the banking industry. She is skilled in budgeting, business planning, internal audit, analytical skills, financial reporting and banking. A graduate from University of Malawi, she is a leader, mentor, and volunteer worker. She is passionate about the girl child, and also very involved in girl mentorship and distribution of reusable pads to keep girls in school.

NBS Bank is a fully-fledged commercial bank providing various financial services to individuals, small and medium businesses, large corporations and public institutions. In partnership with Visa, they recently launched their Visa Infinite Card. Becoming the first bank in Malawi to introduce the Visa Infinite Card is what Temwani describes as “more than a first.” According to her, “it is another expression of our commitment to anticipate our customers’ needs and care a little more.”

Furthermore, she mentioned that what makes this moment even more significant is how the Infinite Card connects to their wider family banking proposition. “We believe that while wealth may be created by individuals, enduring wealth is preserved through families.” Simwaka said.

Temwani is big on supporting the creatives too. She expressed this saying “Malawi possesses immense talent, and with the right access to markets, financing, and business skills, this sector can meaningfully contribute to national development. At NBS Bank, we recognise creatives as entrepreneurs and innovators. We are committed to supporting their growth and sustainability, ensuring the creative industry becomes a cornerstone of Malawi’s economic progress.”

The women are not left out. Last year, NBS Bank embarked on an important journey to strengthen their leadership pipeline through the launch of the NBS Bank Women in Leadership Programme.

She recently stated that one of the things she values about this programme is its emphasis on self-awareness and owning your future. “Leadership begins with understanding who you are, recognising your strengths, being honest about your areas for growth, seeking feedback and having the courage to continuously develop.”  Temwani mentioned.
