Anne Muraya
CEO of Deloitte East Africa
Anne Muraya is the CEO of Deloitte East Africa. She graciously rises to the occasion her responsibility demands. For instance, as one of the few recruits who hadn’t studied accounting when she joined Deloitte in 1994, to bring herself quickly up to speed, she took up roles as a trainer in accounting and audit studies because, according to her, “to teach something requires you to have a great level of mastery.” She admits she really enjoyed it and ended up doing training across Africa and Europe prior to her appointment as audit leader. She continued to work her way up the ladder where today, she sits as CEO.
Her responsibilities as CEO includes overseeing the firm’s operations in Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Ethiopia, Zambia, Malawi, and other locations where it operates, including Rwanda, Burundi, South Sudan, and Somalia.
Furthermore, she also represents the region in the Africa Executive Committee in charge of leading the defined direction and key areas of the Africa business while ensuring efficient execution of all strategic responsibilities.
Anne became a partner in 2009 and was also the National Professional Practice Director for the East Africa practice, leading technical consultations on audit methodology and IFRS.
Serving on the Deloitte Global Advisory Council, she was selected as one of 30 partners globally to serve as a sounding board for the Deloitte Global CEO.
Her view on artificial intelligence, data and analytics is that there is the need to have a firm handle on the trio to use these tools to provide better results for their clients. “We have a drive to align with technology to demonstrate value for our clients as our fees become increasingly based on outcomes achieved rather than time taken.” She said.
Anne holds a Bachelor of Education degree (B.Ed. in Science) in Mathematics and Chemistry and is a member of the Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK) and Certified Public Accountants of Uganda (ICPAU).
